I recently purchased a mac g4 case and internals for 50bux. The case was in a flood last year and has not been booted up since. I will try to save the components but its highly doubtfull. But either way I now have the perfect case to do an awsome mod besides making a trash can out of it.

Any ides that dont involve seting the case on fire or recycling it as door stop?

Well if im thinking this through correctly you could do a 2 tone metacast paint job but you have to use the other thing the dupli recommends for non metals. Or white lights or something erie.

Have you ever used Metalcast?...

Groundcoat (basecoat) is intended for non-metal surfaces and results in a Metallic finish, not Anodized.

All of the Metalcast colors have a nasty tendency to drip or spit from the nozzle. Further more, Metalcast is basically colorized clearcoat so you can't cover up these spots by applying more coats.

If that wasn't enuf, Metalcast chips VERY easily. You have to clearcoat it.

I'm not trying sway you from using it, just a forewarning of headaches I've experineced with it.

Dupli-color, take this product back to your R&D dept :-(

Thanks for the heads up.

Any brand preferance? I have used rustoleum and krylon paints and have had diferent experiences. I have never used metalcast and I have used duplicolor and didnt like it mutch.

Well I washed the case and I must say I love it. The only bad thing is that the internal chasi has been corroded on the top and the case has a clear blue panel ontop. So you can see the corrosion. I am thinking about painting the internal cage and leaving the external panels the way they are. Any color sugestions? I was thinking about a light blue or white or even silver as an internal color.

I am thinking about puting in a prescott based celeron system in this thing with an epox mobo and butchering my old heatercore off my external unit and mounting it inside. I have a fiew older water blocks I can use and no res necesary. Just need a pump.

I am also thinking about puting bright blue leds on the case handles and feet and bright white leds on the blue panels to give it a weird look cupled with a white cathode on the bottom for some underglow effect.

I'd go straight white on the handles and strip the paint off the internal parts and white out the whole damn thing with lights and flat white paint on the insides of the panels.

Metalcast is specialty line by Dupli-color. Other than Metalcast, their specialty coatings like sandable/filler primers are very good. Dupli-color's MIRAGE (http://www.duplicolor.com/products/mirage.html) works nice too, but it must be applied in 3 stages, (black primer/color/clear) and expensive if you're trying to paint a case.

Krylon basic enamels are the most durable paints I've found in aerosol, but hard to wetsand. Thats the compromise ;-) If you had to paint your chassis on a budget, I'd go with a Krylon enamel primer, then enamel color and enamel clear. I've painted alloy rims w/ Kylon enamel and it held up remarkably well through several MN seasons. (must dig out photos sometime)

Plasti-kote's (http://www.plastikote.com/plastikote/auto/index.jsp) Laquer Paints are the best. I'll use their automotive line, it sprays on easy and dries fast :thumb: Great selection of metallic colors

And the man himself. But my mac will be special man. It wont involve any mac parts besides the case. The rest will be all pc. And that is just fine with me.

I seriously thought about that before I trash canned it. It is a very ergonomic case!

Plastikote makes a product that mimics anodized look, its called "Anodizit". Only comes in red and blue though. Pity.

Dude I did not mean to take stabs at you. It just brocke my heart when I saw one of the best looking cases of all time being turned into a trash can. But thats only a matter of taste and opinion. And I must say thats one of the sexiest trash cans I have ever seen so you got the job done.

Actualy I like that red and blue. Maybe the side panels can be red with blue acents? Maybe I should make the acents black but thats been done before.

I duno, ill cros that bridge when I get to it. For now I have a customer and a home pc that is need of finishing before I even think about tackling a mac.
