I think I looked at that once before. It actually seems like a pretty good tool, nice and solid in your hand (if it's the same one I remeber looking at) and is pretty reasonably priced for what you get - esp. the stand and flex shaft. I've not used one though so can't comment on performance or durability.

I have a BnQ pro performance jobbie. I have to say it looks nothing like that one, but im very pleased with mine. Mine has no stand but it has the flexi shaft, the router stand and a whole heap of bits and a carry case for the lot. The stand would be useful.

I have the exact same one as you linked to, I can't compare it with a dremel as I've never used one, but it's done everything that I have asked of it although the flexi shaft did break after about a year, you also get quite a good range of disks and stuff with it to get you started.
Good buy at the price if you ask me...............Oh you did, well there ya go !!

Argos do a JCB digital dremel-clone. Looks pretty good if you ask me. Comes with Flexi shaft but no stand, lots or bits, soft start, variable control from 5K to 33K and is currently reduced to £40.00

i bought the B&Q rotary tool day, it's such a good bargain:
you get 150 cutting discx, sanding pads, grinding bits etc.
a stand
a flexicable
and the main power bit
for 29.99
and ive tested out today on some wood and some steel and it's great.

Are those cutting disc metal?

It looks like it. I certainly got some metal ones with mine. I've never used one, but i guess they would be good for wood.

yeah they are metal and apparently you can use them on wood and some metal????

Won't really work on metal though, it'll be blunt before it cuts through anything.
I've tried them on acrylic, works but it's no better than normal cutting disks.

I meant to post to this thread before I went away but if you went up a level in the B&Q link, they had proper dremels for about £5 or £10 more.
I've tried 3 or 4 clones now, including B&Q's own though to a Draper (which I thought would last a little longer)... they've all packed up at the point of "here endeth the warranty", if not before. <_<
I'm determined to get the real thing next time, I was swung to the Draper by a 45-piece accessory kit last time and regretted it ever since (even more so when that packed up too).

On a similar note...
My "el cheapo" 4 1/2" grinder bit the dust as soon as I got it, and the replacement smoked out instantly. So much for "$0.99 special!!!".
I'll be picking up a DeWalt angle grinder soon; the real stuff this time...

Anybody able to quickly refresh my memory on why choosing the Dremel Professional might be a better choice than the Multi-Pro?
I'm shopping right now... :dremel:

Just to clarify a little -
By Multi-Pro, I mean the 395(0) version, not the 295.
With the Professional, I know it has the torque feedback system but I figure there are those here who may have used both (and I guess I'm looking to hear if you got your money's worth for the difference in price).
Multi-Pro (http://www.dremel-direct.com/acatalog/Dremel_395_MultiPro___40_Accs.html)
Professional (http://www.dremel-direct.com/acatalog/Dremel_3981.html)
I may have found a deal on eBay, but these are the best links I've found for the ideal candidates.
My memory tells me I've seen mnpctech's opinion on this somewhere but I can't remember where. :duh:
[edit]Doh! An hour's googling later, I find a link that was at the bottom of this page all the time...

The handle looks different, and the "Electronic feedback controller" looks new to me, but all I really look for is the variable speed control; some of these only have an on/off or a 5 fixed speed selection; I prefer the fully variable version (I think both of these are ok).
