What happens to an unloaded pi ckup truck in a curve is that the rear end has nothing to do - is unemployed, metaphorically speaking - so it comes around to ask you for work,

Best line I have read in a while.... :D

It seems that its pick on jag day again. Knip had something do do with that.

Well you guys that seem to confuse me with a redneck, your partialy rite.

Have you been aquainted with the srt10? http://www.dodge.com/srt-10/index.html?context=vehiclePage&type=vehicleLink

As far as watching top gear. Not really my type of show. I watch on ocasion shows as trucks, car and driver tv or hotrod. American hot rod. Yes Im a tourque over hp klinda guy. I belive in a motor that provides low revs and high tourque. I like engines over 4L and 6cyl is minimal in my book. You guys have diferent tastes than me, and frankly its understandable.

This has been a public broadcasting anouncement in part of jag telling you to kiss off.

and good nite:-)

Those big ass Dodge's should be banned from the roads, esp. over here. They're insanely ugly and they take up far too much road. What's more, the only people who own 'em are grade A to**ers and don't know how to drive sensibly.

As for Top Gear, http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/frown.gif but not long to wait. http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif

My brother-in has a big Ford pickup which is perfectly practical.......but he's a farmer.

Pickups in town as private vehicles are completely ridiculous.

That was who the above rant was aimed at really, I can't find fault with people who need things like that for work purposes.

jaguarking11

Ok let me check.
Work vehicles-Chevy astrovan v6 4.3L-my father uses it to haul materials for his contracting work and dubles as a family vacation vehicle as there are 7 of us at christmas.
Work vehicles-ford f150, dodge series etc. All are mainly used as work vehicles.
The srt10 belive it or not is meant to be a work vehicle too. Despite it having a v10 the engine is made to truck spec and not viper spec. The viper has a aluminum block and diferent heads vs the srt10 has cast iron block and truck tuned heads.
I know plenty of people that own large vehicles and all of them are used for work.

Now how about large displacement work vehicles too.
Lincoln towncar 4.6L v8 1/2million miles and used as a taxicab. Nothing outthere can do the job a lincoln/ crownvictoria can do in NYC streets. They tried using small displacement toyota minivans as taxicabs in NYC and they died after 2years of use. The engines cant keep up with the constant acel and decel required in the always heavy trafic in NY.

As for my tyastes, I like large vehicles because I do home improvement and actualy want a vehicle I can take to home depot and pick up a fiew things withought renting a pickup.

Other than that. You guys should see what they are doing with clasics recently. I have seen a 350small block chevy pushing out 20mpg city and 25highway and still push out 500hp while being in a vehicle thats heavier than a work truck. And if all else fails runing a large motor on natural gas is always an option. Witch brings polution levels almost down to zero.

ill stop ranting now.

NBot to strat a flame here but 30 mpg would be considered a joke here. I just got back from a work trip, 200 miles both highway, city and country roads. I averaged 59mpg....... And that was not driving slow.

Ah my 1.9 TDI.

edit thats European gallons, 4.5 ltrs = 1 gallon.

That's impressive! The difference between a European gallon and a US gallon is fairly negligible. 4.5L = 1.18 US gallons, but this is the same 100hp TDI they use in American VWs? They list only 46 as the top highway MPG, different diesel fuel? More than 60 mpg is unheard of, at least for me, and at least in non-hybrid cars.

Its the 110 Bhp engine.

On any kind of spin I average 50+ mpg. The car is golf based so its lighter then the passat and had better aerodynamics than the golf.

All figures based on the onboard computer ehich I checked just after buying the car (it came within 5% of my calculations

to be honest most of todays driving was motorway type driving with little traffic during city driving.

heh! Mine sits just below 30 according to the computer (thats the average for about 2 years). The missus mostly drives it around town so im not too worried tbh. It does short runs all the time, poor thing, but at least my family are in the safest of our 2 cars.

Dude. You run a diesel firstly. Lower rpm higher tourque flater tourque lines. You probly dont see over 4000rpm at almost any speed. Secondly your car is 1.9L a 350 is 5.7L (well 5.65L in reality but rounded up) and as stated your gallon is about 18%more than ours. And almost 20% is not neglibgable. In us gallons your lucky to breacks 40mpg in that thing. therefore a car that has 3x the displacement and 5x the power geting 3/8 less fuel economy is pretty dam good in my book. Now if you bring that tdi to 500hp and 500lb of tourque and run it against the 350 and get the same fuel economy and life span then you can start comparing. Till next time.

Oh and btw. diesels are fun but larger diesels are more fun. You should give a large truck a try (by large I men a classic peterbilt with duble rear axels and fat front tires) Its quite a feeling I assure ya.

LOL, Yes, but i dont do many miles. I dont need to drive to work, so thats a big saving. I do go to play squash twice a week (about 25ish miles for both nights) then ill go to pick up some vedgetables, or a takeaway or something, and do a spot of shopping. I'd say it would be rare for me to drive more than 40 miles during a week. At the weekends owever its usually me who drives, that when i get to use the Audi. Yes there is a bit of resentment there, as i own the Audi, and our other car is a crappy micra which would be cheaper to use for all the short journey stuff, but is considerably more flimsy. I'd rather they were safe, but sometimes i wish i had sole use of the good car ;-)

As for the Top Gear review of the Ford F150, it's definately one of the more amusing bits from this series. Anyway, why buy a U.S. pickup when you can buy a 10 year old Jap' made pickup with 160,000 miles on it that is practically indestrucatble http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/naughty.gif

Ur kidding rite? 10 year old? You should see some of the old pickups people drive upstate NY. Those things are indestructable. There are people that have had their f150 or chevy pickups for well over 30 years and have worked them to death. Car craft picked up a cuple of old roadside work trucks (chevy pickups) they serviced the firstone and tuned its engine. That thing was pulling 20,000lb of stuff around despite it having well over 200kmiles. The second one was turned into project jake where they droped the front end and tuned it for better highway maners and that thing was geting about 25mpg and also had over 200k miles. Those things are indestructable. But probly not something you may want in europe. These trucks are built to run around here in the US and are extremly well made for this purpose.

If I was in europe I would pick up an old misubishi truck and drop a 2.4L turbocharged mitsubishi motor in it and cupled it to a 6speed manual. Drop the front end and give it some nice rubers to grip well.

I supose the saying goes even today. When in rome.....U get the idea.

Did you watch the vid' JK? They did some pretty insane stuff to the Hilux, and in the review of the F150 Clarkson said the build quality for a £33,000 vehicle was appauling, all the interior was mismatched and poorly stuck together and it had teeny tiny brakes not to mention rather unresponsive steering.

Knipex
9th August 2005, 19:08
In fairness that was a right hand drive conversion.

I would blame the interior and steering on that not Ford.

I didnt watch the video yet. Will watch it though.

I duno what ford did to the f150 in europe but. Here it is one of the best pickups I have ever seen. The interior is amazingly comfortable and feels like a luxury car more than a truck. I have seen and sat in and looked at every corner of the f150 when they had the NY autoshow. I didnt see any of those issues.

Maybe they did a very poor job of converting it or something. Or plainly euro ford is not holding up its end. Honestly back when I lived in europe, fords were among the worst vehicles around. Always had engine problems and would eat up gass. It took me a loong time to realise that US spec fords in general are good cars. But there are bad ones too. I Dislike the ford focus, and the ford escort, and also the ford taurus here. The taurus in my opinion isnt too bad but I dislike its styling. But the focus seems like a pos, but cant expect too mutch out of a car thats meant to be a budget vehicle here. Im also well aware that the focus in europe is diferent so it may not be so bad. But escorts are typical granny cars and tend to be craptacular in general.

fivecheebs
9th August 2005, 21:48
There are some massive differences between the fords here and yours. I'm not sure i can recall your focus, ours, the RS model, is the only one i would consider owning, i have to admit thats mainly due to thier past success in WRC. Your escort is different, I dot think we have anything onthe same chassis as the Taurus, but im probably wrong there. I have driven a Taurus, and it was awful. It was in the negetive end of the scale for "feeback" from the road for me.

I completly take your point on the F150. You see them everywhere. Arent they the US's biggest selling pickup? I have to suspect the conversion was most of the cause of the bad review, but again we arent used to US suspension over here, and as previously discussed, our roads demand something different.

You should deffinately watch the vid, i guarentee you'll be amazed at what that Hilux survived. A mate of mine has one and its built like a tank. They go pretty much anywhere too.

That would depend on where they are mate. If i saw one in Boston, chances are the driver will be worse. In my opinion and experiances, Boston is the most beautuiful city in the US, its one of my favorite worldwide citys in fact, but the drivers all drive like they have the squits and need to get to a toilet. Its utter chaos, but really quite a laugh to endure once in a while. I wouldnt want to drive there every day.

Give me a granny in a fiesta on a country road anyday over an F150 in central Boston.

I am far from a fan of ford infact the only us car im actualy interested in witch is sheduled to come out in the next ten years is the 2007 corvett GM, Crysler and ford all have started making pure fugly ass crap everything is turning in to an SUV or something much much uglyer (the new jeep looks like a hummer (ewww)) realy the only attractive cars are euopean cars and japanees cars realy makes me sad.

my brothers ex has a taurus and its awful all plastic interior vinyl seets... confort dosent even come to mind when i think of that car. its not the car makers fault that they make SUVs its the fault of the stupis socker moms with 1 kid who buy them.

Nope, it's a Toyota Supra with TRD Widebody kit (among other extensive modifications)
It belongs to some guy in the States who has spent a small fortune on it as a show car.
The paint job is just insane, it's a Candy Apple red but it's only really suitable for show cars as it's next to impossible to touch up properly if scratched.

Nissan 300zx... pffft, looks nowt like one. http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif
