I found this in my inbox today.

Modfest 2005 will take place at Multiplay’s i-25 summer LAN event, which runs from 26 August to 29 August 2005 at Newbury Racecourse, Berkshire. The event will pit the UK’s best PC modders against each other for the title of UK PC Modding Champion 2005 and a grand prize of £1,300 worth of PC hardware. Second and third place runners up will win prizes worth £150 and £75 respectively. The winner and runners up will also have their PCs featured in the November issue of Custom PC magazine, on sale 29 September, and receive a Fragwear (http://www.fragwear.co.uk/) t-shirt.

Modfest entrants are entitled to a discounted i-25 entry price of £65 (usual price £75), which includes full admission to all four days of the i-25 LAN event, so you can demonstrate your gaming prowess as well as your modding skills. Modfest entrants also get double the standard desk area on which to exhibit their PCs, and participate in the LAN. The winners will be announced at 5pm on Saturday 27 August.

After last year I dont think I will be going but others may be interested.

If there were single day tickets available then maybe, but for £75 they can go take a running jump.

It's stupid to have it at i25. I have absolutely no desire to go to that, but I would like to see modfest.

Stupid.

It's a bank holiday weekend LAN and modding expo with Modfest assimiliated into it rather than Modfest on its lonesome. It means to go the Modfest you have no choice but to pay full wack for the LAN event. It's shame really because it'll put those folks off who just wanted to go for a days worth of modding stuff, whereas now, they will still make up the numbers, but no doubt the majority of the folks who go are there for the gaming events anyway. It's kind of a trade off for Modfest but one that still guarnatees them enough bodies in the tent so to speak.
I think the only people likely to go are those entering the mod comp's who've been in CustomPC this year.

Sounds like an event where Decision makers never attended these types of events. If they we're LAN gamers, they would understand what their asking isn't the norm. I experienced this whenever up and coming local car clubs tried organizing events. "WTF were they thinkin?"

Meh.

Mebbe if I ever got my expenses for last year or the compensation for the damage to my rigs, I could afford to go. <_<

It´s 65 pounds (sorry, can´t find the pound sign on this spanish keyboard :p) if you´re entering Modfest at i25. I´m in the same boat, Newbury is too far to travel and even with 10 pounds cashback from the original price it´s too much for me.

I don´t think it´s the right place for an event like that, it would be much better if it was a stand-alone engagement. I´m hoping we can organise something which will be a much better success than this :D

As far as I know NO ONE ever got their expences (at least no one I was talking to.) After 20 emails and numberous phone calls and after being lied to for the 100th time I just gave up.

EDIT.

Just left a comment on modfest after the news item on their website. www.custompc.co.uk

Due to lack of interest, Custom PC have had to cancel Modfest 2005. This was due to take place at our i25 event over 26-29 August at Newbury Racecourse.

Apologies to those who were looking forward to taking part. It was felt that it was better to cancel the Modfest section rather than go ahead with an appalling turnout. The i25 event itself is unaffected, with over 500 people confirmed as attending already.

We will be working with Custom PC to try and come up with a better format for the modding exhibition and tournament. There were a number of problems with the format that people have told us about, such as existing attendees not wanting to move into the Modfest area away from their clan and the entry fee putting off entrants who are not gamers.

All going well, we hope to host Modfest 2005 at a future event, with a different format that will generate more entrants. In the meantime, i25 is full steam ahead with over 500 people confirmed as attending!

Let's hope they come up with something better next time.

Cheebs do you still know those guys with the mobile LAN van? They might come in useful if we ever organised a UK WizD meet.

TBH, they should just do a similar thing to last years. It'll be much easier and far more practical :thumb:
