As part of my prizes I got an aerogate 2 with 4 temp sensors.
I was reading the instructions that came with it ( normaly I never read instructions but this time I was bored so gave it a go.)
It says to place the sensor between the CPU and heatsink
Now Im no expert but I broke out my trust vernier and measured the thickness of the tip of the probe, 0.45mm
So this aint going to work !!!
How do you guys do it ???

HI Knipex
I had the same dilema when fitting my Lian Li temp sensors.
There are 2 methods of fitting according to the instructions supplied with mine.
1
If the wires are thin enough stick the sensor to the centre of the underside of the cpu and feed the wires between the cpu pins and exit at one corner, i dont like this idea as it does not allow the cpu to seat correctly and plays havock with the heatsink alignment.
2
Place the sensor alongside the cpu die so that the edge of the sensor is just touching the die and stick it down wj=ith the tape provided. There is enough room between the heatsink and the cpu to do this due to the die being raised aslong as the sensor is a flat one. :)
I used method 2 but disadvantage is that is is can never be 100% accurate. :(
Hope this helps.
If i can find the instructions i will scan and post.
Back in the days of S370, you'd sometimes find a channel in h/sinks that made this easier.
Surely there's enough of a gap around the core to allow method 2, as MrHw stated (although I used to trim the end back to the sensor a bit for a more pessimistic reading) unless it's the joint of sensor & wire thats giving you the prob.
Method 1 has been facilitated in the past by people (such as pHæstus on ProCooling) actually cutting away the top layer of their ZIF socket - but it's a bit of a warranty voider. [/understatement]

I didn't like the idea either, but method 1 worked for me w/o any problems.
The tape included in these kits for attaching sensors is usually bunk. If you can get this (http://multimedia.mmm.com/mws/mediawebserver.dyn?llllll7sDx_lF5MlZ5MllltKUxoLLLL j-) tape by 3M.. its da best!

The Athlon 64 has a heatspreader so placing beside the core is not really an option.
If I place it under the chip wont my temp reading suck ????

If I place it under the chip wont my temp reading suck????
Mine fluctuated 1 - 2 degrees from my BIOS reading. thats not too bad
I like using these things to monitor the actual case temp. I'll mount one on inside frame of front fan, then another on back of exhaust fan. This gives me an idea of how my internal temp compares to room temp : I'm all about the case mun :p
