I got sent this in an e-mail and its apparently a an audi made from silver for an Arab sheik. I'm dubious about the silver and wonder if its just been chromed.

What do you guys think?

Chromed methinks.

I could be wrong, but think silver is probably too soft to use for car body panels

Ah... found another (http://kzdn.blogspot.com/2005/06/chromed-audi-a8.html) snippet of info.

Yeah, looks chrome anyway, but that snippet from OCBlue pretty much confirms it.

Not nice.

Why not brushed aluminium given that's it all Al iirc.

Thats just wrong! too too shiney! I wonder if the upholstery is Gold, Silver, and Titanium thread in a tateful burberry weave?

poor audi. Although silver is probably the best colour for them ;-) just not that shiney.

I believe that chromed cars are illegal some places, the UK is an example, you're restricted to a certain percentage of the car being chrome. Presumably to prevent excessive glare and light reflection.

Ruined a perfectly good car imo..

I hate to say it but i actually quite like it. I feel sorry for the other road users when that drives towards you in the desert sun.

In contrast to some of his other comments, I seriously doubt it. http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif

Looks ok to me. But not something that suits my taste. I saw the concept ford at the NY autoshow and it was not as shiny as the pictures made it be. The car has a darker gun metal tint in the felsh so to speak. It is like a mirror non the less but it fits the car perfectly in that case.

I like my audis in pearl black insted of silver or pretty mutch any other color.

Heh, I knew a guy who subscribed to that credo.
He couldn't say the word 'chrome' without doing it 'Homer-style' (and this was long before The Simpsons debuted). :D

Hmm, can't say I like it, it's just a bit too shiny. And wouldn't it turn into a giant oven or something, or would the chrome reflect the heat away :h34r:

ỒĊBłůē
3rd August 2005, 14:01
No, the silver should reflect the heat.

If it were painted a matt black - now that would be one hot motor! :h34r:

LOL bb. It reminded me of that kids film. I think it was called "flight of the navigator". The one with that funny eye on a stalk that had personality problems.

Chrome is a dangerous thing to use and is hard to get right and tbh in most cases i think chrome looks tacky and garish but in respect to the audi it looks ok.

A good mod, wheather its to a car or a computer should look like it was always meant to look like that imo. I wouldnt chrome my own car and i would hate to have to look after one thats been chromed but if i was given that car i would happily accept. I think it looks sleek and purposefull like a WW2 fight plane.

I found the origin of this crazy car!!

http://www.mtm-online.de/en/highlights_audi_a8d3_poliert.html#

apparently its the same people who made the Audi 200 seen in mnpctech's thread about the nurburgring:

http://www.wizdforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=630&highlight=gran+turismo

and that car:

interesting company..

MTM is phucking awesome..., but I still don't like the chrome.

If you had $25,000 to spend on these 2 used car choices

2002 Audi S4 Quattro Sedan
or
2004 Subaru Sti Sedan

Both stock and meticulously maintained w/ 30K miles each.. Which would you buy and why?

I'm not shopping. I just noticed them both listed in local used car publication.. It does present a good toss up though :nods:

sorry, too tired to grab spec sheets

Sti by far. way more power.

The Audi should hold it's value better and for that matter hold itself together better.

I would be tempted with the scoob, but i know i would go for the audi.

Ive said it before, but the Audi is twice the car the scooby is, not for driveablity but for quality. I tend to keep cars for a while, so build quality is important.

Da_Rude_Baboon
23rd September 2005, 11:21
I would go with the STi too.

So long as you service your scoob regulary the engine's are reliable as are most japanese cars. The outer build quality is pretty crappy though. The sills and bumpers are loose as anything. On my m8's sportwagon the light that illuminates the rear licence plate isn't fixed to anything, it just sits in the hole!

I have no exieirence of Audi's but a friend of mine who used to be in the car trade had an old audi 80 quatro sport for a while and said it was great.

Might sound strange and I can't offer much reasoning why (although cheebs is close to the mark) but if I was single with time and a workshop, I think I'd grab the scoob.
The family man in me says grab the Audi (and the boy racer in me ain't arguing ;-)).

Oh to have the choice... :sigh:

The 2002 S4 is the 4.2 V8, is it?

walkitiki

The 2002 S4 is the 4.2 V8, is it?

The Audi, though substanially heavier, is pushing 344 bhp and the little boxer is pushing 300.

I think I might still take the Subaru, seems like it would be a fun car to drive. I like the rally roots of the STi..but upon writing that I think I might like the S4..oh God I don't know which I'd rather have..

IF this world has tought me anything is that audi overbuilds their engines and that bi turbo 2.5L v6 would probly handle allot more presure than audi has put on it. So Yes my answer would be the audi. In my opinion its a mutch better car. That and most audis are built like tanks... Weight dosent matter mutch to me because I want comfort and quality....

Subarus on the other hand are pretty dam good at what they do and are afordable racers.

Still would go for audi.

Starbuck3733T

whoops, I had it in my head that the S4 was built with the 1.8T... not the biturbo. In that case, AUDI!
