Inspired by zer0's what do you listen to thread, and having always liked list threads to a certain degree... I present the:
What scheme do you use to name your machines? thread.
At work, I name my boxen (as in non-production machines) after meats whose name is not the same as the animal they come from (how's that for obscure!) -
Beef - my work box
Pork - the student assistant deskto

Veal - test server
Bacon - test server
work - production are the military alphabet
alpha - dc/fs
bravo - dc/fs
charlie - backup
delta - backup
echo - exchange
hotel - RIS/WSUS
india - RADIUS
oscar - RADIUS
papa - application
sierra - SQL
tango - sharepoint
whiskey - Web
home - my boxen are disney villians, wife/daughter are disney princesses, active directory (after very painful rename process) name is MAGICKINGDOM and MagicKingdom.local respectively
cinderella - daughter's machine
belle - wife's lappy
beast - project goliath
kaa - my laptop
scar - xp mce and storage server
malificent - vmware ESX host 1

chernabog - vmware ESX host 2
hook - SQL 2000/Vertias 9 backup w\in chernabog
hopper - DC 2/RIS/WSUS w\in chernabog
khan - workshop workstation and media player for backyard music system
jafar - previo workstation backup to disk server (weekly fulls to hook/veritas).
(and now for the network equipment that doesn't follow the convention)
pix505 - Cisco PIX 505 firewall
ap1 - netgear MR814v2 cable router w\ routing bit shut off, bottom floor and backyard ap
ap2 - Dlink DI-614 cable router w\ routing bit shut off, top floor and front of house AP
ap3 - Dlink DI-624 - sniffing
replaytv - the wife's replaytv

I didn't know they made a program to do that...
although if you look at the number of actual hardware machines in my house you can reduce the number by 4 - since I have 4 virtual machines running inside ESX.

My first watercooled PC was called Uisce (Irish for water) After that they were called Uisce 1, Uisce 2.
All the rest of the machines on the network are either named after their owner or Matrix charachters.

I just name mine after the theme of the rig:
Black Widow: Phase cooled uber gaming rig, which is adorned in black black and more black and sits in a modified CoolerMaster Black Widow complete with matching compressor chassis
Ice: Passively cooled radiator, AMD mobile rig running at 2700 Mhz with a 9800 AIW SE running at XT speeds. Again in a modified Black Widow, but I really do want to get it painted white (but Black Widow stylee)
Fire: P4 Prescott on air, runs hotter than a chicken & magma vindaloo under a blowtorch in a furnace in hell on a hot day, sitting in an un modded Back Widow
Yes, I do have an obssession with Black Widows

The PCs in this house are numbered ATM*
Names will be given when my ass gets around to making them into something worth naming :dremel: :wiz:
* other than my Dell - unimaginatively called Latty after reading about her - The ghost who walks (http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/laptops/dell-latitude-c400/384633/)

What kind of meat is fugu?
Oh and you should call your next meat based computer 'longpig' :D

Fugu (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=fugu)
Any of various poisonous fish related to the puffers that are used as food, especially in Japan, after the poisonous skin and organs have been removed.
I seem to remember fugu mentioned in the simpsons once with hilarious consequences
Machine names... generally a play on words of the chip inside and clock speed (Coppermine, Palomino, Thoroughbred, etc.).
In speaking about them though, I tend to theme them by the case (HexaDragon, ClearPC, Alien-Li, etc.).
The kids' machine has the description "2 Litre Celeron" (as in engine size, not coolant volume... ;-)).
The closest I came to a naming convention like most use was back when I had my cutting edge PII400 and 450MHz C300A - I used 'Titan' and another of Jupiter's moons. Figured that with 16 of 'em (4 major), I'd be good to go for a while. :D
