View Full Version : The best topgear series ever?

It is often said (in the UK at least) that Britian has the best TV in the world. Largely down to the quality of the programmes that the BBC produces. I think my favourite BBC TV show is topgear which is an hour long (no ad breaks on the BBC B) ) show all about cars!
The new series started this week and i caught the repeat last night and OMG it was amazing! They did a 5-a-side football (soccer) match using the new Toyota city car thing which was the best thing i think i have seeon on TV this year. It started off quite tamely but rapidly ended up in them ramming into each other with cars up on two wheels and nearly driving up the bonnet (hood). Then to finnish it all off they put the new Range Rover Sport up against a Challenger 2 tank to see if they could get direct hit on it.
I really hope the BBC go ahead with the watch again feature on thier website so you guys in the US can see it.

...shame they didn't actaully blow Clarkson up! :D - Only joking
I'll second all of the above, one of the few programs on UK TV that shouldn't be missed.

hehe .. I agree ... absolutely brilliant TV. Warpoc made a clip of the football scene on my request (cheers mate  ) But its 30 MB ish. I was going to upload it so you could all watch it lol but i think its perhaps a little too big. Maybe ill try to make it a bit smaller.

30mb is nothing in the heady days of broadband! Get it up cheebs! :p
The best thing about top gear is the presenters imo. They've finally managed to get it right, Richard Hammond and James May are the perfect foil to the man god Clarkson.

man god Clarkson. We talking about the same Jeremy Clarkson? http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/huh.gif The guy is funny but I wouldn't go that far, I find Richie Hammond far more entertaining, infact, he was at my University about 2 months ago for one of the other many shows he's currently doing for the Beeb, anyway, he was down here in a brand-spanking new 911 Carrera4 S mingling with the female physio students - nice one!
Nice car http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/wub.gif
@ Cheebs, post it ya woosy! my cable line can take the strain for al of the 5 mins it'll take to download. I hope http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/ph34r.gif

The only way i was watching topgear was downloading the episodes online. But alas that has now dried up. Too bad really, great show and nothing like it here in the states (but there are like a billion nascar shows, bah!).
Got to agree. One of the best shows on TV and it's consitently good too. They've always got something great on the show. Sunday's one was a great start to the new series.
Can't wait to see the race this time between the car and something else. The Ferrari versus the plane was great stuff B)

Co'mon he is the ultimate bloke! I dont always agree with his opinons but he expresses them well. He also doesn't pander to other people which is particulary funny when you see him on other TV shows plus anyone who sticks two fingers up at fashion and wear/do what ever they feel comfortable with should be appalauded.
I do agree with you on Richard Hammond as i think he is one of the best presenters on TV and Braniac is hilarious.

Thanks for that mate. I had forgotten it was back...
Downloading as I type... oops done.^_^ - I've seen a few eps of TopGear, or is that 5thGear, on the SpeedChannel here in the states. Rather good show. But nothing ever like what your Discribing now. The people on the show I saw was an older guy, some fat dude, and the blonde chick(quite nice looking).

Ok - just watched it -:eek::eek: That was awsome! Those little toyotas are pretty sweet! And that was quite a riot to watch!
 Nice one cheebs. I'd missed it too.
Doorball!!! :D

Vicki Butler Henderson?
Anyone else see the prog where they made her up as a guy and she stitched up her brother at his race driving school? Classic. ^_^

That was Jeremy Clarkson doing the piece, and Richie Hammond at the end.
I love the Koenigsegg, what a beast.
If you're interested the test track is a figure 8 around a disused airfield called Dunsfold Park (http://www.dunsfoldpark.com/) There's a picture gallery of all of the sections of the track in the link.

Top Gear have their studio there. I think we're blessed with motoring shows on UK TV.
Does anyone have the piece on the Atom? The Clarkson face mod is so funny.
@ 2JSC - Do you mean this one (http://www.vb-h.net/)
@Squelch - yah thats her, found out it is the show 5th Gear. I rather like it, seeing as they actually drive the cars(on race tracks) other than MotorWeek who drives the car up along the California coast. Plus, the 5thGear guys can be rather humorus.^_^

She could ride my gear stick any day. Her posh bird voice is quite sexy too.
The old guy on 5th gear is Tiff Needel a legendary raceing driver. I think he still does GT racing among others. The guy in your Konigsegg video JSC is the man god Jeremy Clarkson. B)

hehe .. yea, isnt the hilux an amazing vehicle! My brickie mate has one and its virually indestructable. I'd love a Hilux surf if i was ever to go the SUV route.
I have the most recent episode at home. If anyone (thinking stateside particularly, specifically scope but anyones welcome) want to grab it of me PM me and ill get you an FTP account for my server. Only 256 Up though so it will be slow.

I just caught tonights episode LMAO.
There was a piece where JC was testing the new Boxter and the SLK. This was no ordinary track test though.
Wearing a "virtual hit vest" he drove the cars around the British Armies urban training site while trying not to be shot by members of the the Irish Regiment Sniper team.
That looked so much fun, and to think he gets paid to do that!
Damon Hill featured tonight as well. There are rumours he is the Stig which they tried to dispell. He drove the "reasonably priced car" on a hot lap, setting the best time ever. His face was a picture when JC told him his (wrong) time. He's now the on the new F1 drivers leader board, another alternative to the F1 championship.
I think that this years Top Gear show is the best by far.

I said to my lot that whichever car went second would be at a disadvantage, and sure enough... <_<

Yeah the test was so cool but very biased. I prefer the Boxster myself, mainly because I don't like the look of the SLK and because all Merc' have done is shove the biggest bloody engine they could find in there - doesn't equate to great engineering in my book, a 5+ litre V8 in a sports coupe is always gonna make a fast car.
Would've been even more fun if they'd had the SL55 and the new 911 Carrera S against each other - now that wouldve been tough choice :naughty:

It wasn't a particuarly scientific test though. It just seemed like more fun than anything. They did need to have convertables for the test to work however (exposed driver) that said, how would the Masarati Coupe have fared?

This is very true, though i'm sure both the new 91 and SL55 come in convertible flaour  It was still amazingly funny., and that masarati was yummy, though I hate tiptronic gears :duh:
I keep bloody missing this!
I have the JC 'Crashterbation' vid where he chases down a remote-control equipped 'Vette in a helicopter gunship, which was fairly awesome but pretty short-lived (obviously). :D

I preferred the SLK myself as it looks more aggresive than the porsche and all porsche's look the same which annoys me.
The triptronic gears in the new golf GTi are supposed to be amazing. It has more than one clutch so if your in 3rd gear it already has 4th and 2nd selected so changing gears is almost instant. In 5th gear it was quicker around the track then the standard manual.

I just don't know how i'd get used to a manual box that uses flappy paddles instead of a stick - would take a fair bit of driving to adjust I imagine.
