I decided to ditch my previous mobo and video card and try SLI. I have read way to many articles now and have seen people get anywhere from a 30% to an almost 50% increase in performance with dual video cards.

The motherboard, video cards, and ram are all listed below. Suggestions or feedback?

DFI Lanparty UT nf4 SLI socket 939

BFG Tech Geforce 6600GT

This is still up in the air only because of the cost to run an sli system. If I can't afford it I will stick with my other setup and get my X800XL like I was originally going to buy.

First suggestion would be to list the parts... I assume you're referring to a sig but I don't see it (some people turn them off, y'know) ;)

I just noticed I forgot to post them. Whoops, thanks Pug.

yeah i would love to see the specs your planning on using...

im interested in getting one of the new nforce4 for intel based boards but ill wait until they are in the $150 range that way i can buy eather another 6600gt or get 2 8600s.

now what would be cool is 2 amd fx-55s with 2 6800 ultras in sli... (but ill never be able to afford it...)

I edited the original post, glad Pug caught that otherwise I would have never noticed.

seems ok to me... i know its expencive but if you could you might be with a single 6800gt as some people have said a 6800gt costs less than 2 6600gts and is faster. (as far as i know)

Do you plan on getting both of the 6600's now, or one now and one later?

I would suggest, for better power and upgradability, to buy a single 6800 ($295)or 6800GT ($349) now, and then wait a while and pick up a second card at a later time. A single 6800 is much faster than the 6600 (I think the 6600 core is a crippled 6800 core), even though it's slower. A single GT gives the pair of 6600's a run for the money, at a little less than the outright cost of the pair. Although form what I've been reading, SLI improvement in games isn't as great as it appears on benchmarks, like 3D Mark etc.

I was ready to buy into SLI a while ago, but right now I'm really not sold anymore. The SLI able board could be the best thing, especially if nVidia keeps SLI for a long time and beyond.

[OT] zer0, I was fretting about my 754 AMD64 3400, especially after I bought it. Everyone said the 939's were so much better, and the 754 would probably be noticably slower than my 3.0 P4. That's not the case at all!!! This is the fastest CPU I have ever owned. It smokes the P4, and coupled with my 6800GT, I can run Morrowind at 1280 x 1024 with 4x AA and 16x AF, with the game being very playable. No need for an FX55!! ^_^
