Well I've been meaning to do something like this for a while... I finally got around to plucking up the guts to do a bit of Voltage Modding to my 9600XT.

It took me a hell of a long time to work out the mods for the card, but eventually I've got there.

I'd like to thank the people over at XtremeSystems for helping me work out the vmods, and so far, I've got 2 of the 3 mods done on my card.

The first one... vGPU mod, controls the voltage supplied to the graphics processor.

10k Ohm Variable resistor connected to Ground and Feedback pins on the chip labeled RT9202 (pins 3 and 6). the second mod I did was the vDDQ mod, which controls the power to the PCB afaik. That is controlled by the chip labeled ISL6522CB, pins 5 and 7 are the two that I need to solder to, again a 10k VR was used.

Final vGPU mod...

and finally an image of both the vGPU and vDDQ mods...

The results...

Well, I've jumped the core from a previous max of 648, upto a new max of 774 (so far from testing) with 1.59v vGPU and 1.45v vDDQ, and the memory has gone from 372 to 374. I've still got the vMEM mod to do, which I should get around to doing over the next day of so :D

Great stuff, I didn't know the 9600XT was capable of such an extreme OC. Seems mindblowing WRT to the 378 to 425 Core OC I was able to execute on my radeon 9800 pro (sapphire black PCB (OEM) version). Maybe there is some truth to the OEM cards using a lesser-layered PCB and therefor not OCing as well. Or maybe I just need a kick in the VGPU!

That's a nuts OC :o

Can't wait to see what you get when you have finished the vMEM mod

Modding is ALWAYS extreme. B)

Care to link to the extreme systems page? All the other radeon voltmod sites of seen are not clear enough for my taste.

i'll second that request - google search for radeon volt mods wasnt as useful as i'd hope... <_<

Thanks for the kind comments guys, I was close to killing the card today from too many volts :D

Got a bit carried away and got this while running thru nature test in 3dmark2001...

OOPS :D

It happens when vDDQ is set to anything above 1.44v, so I'm hampered in my core speed by the fact that vDDQ doesn't like being set above 1.44, I need 1.47v vDDQ along with 1.59v vGPU to run 774 core

It lived anyway and I managed to post a score just shy of 17800 :)

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7617992 is my latest compare URL, 762 core thru

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/forumd...p?s=&forumid=85 (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=85) is possibly the best and most complete graphics card volt modding forum around :)

I'm finding my CPU is a big bottle neck, as is the cards' 128bit memory bus, which really hampers my GPU core clocks :)

Heres a better picture of the two vmods I've done so far, the 3rd vMod is to follow soon :)

Left is vDDQ and right is vGPU :)

for an idea of the size of the voltage regulators.. the Variable resistors are 4mm x 18mm :)

you know bigz your a bit scary! your 9600XT must be screaming for mercy!
