I was wondering if anyone here is a fan of large trucks. I am a big fan of large trucks so I was wondering if anyone has anything to add to this. Any pics of trucks would be awsome
I prefer Peterbilt, MAN, MAC, Freightliner trucks. Anyone has any brands I never heard of?

Trucks are cool, but sometimes the people that drive them arent :p
So why do u like the domestics more than say Volvo? Dont know much about large trucks but i always thought the volvo's were better designed? I just think they look more aerodynamic vs the MAC's ive seen.

Well a good old american truck can last 30 years plus and still look brand spanking new and they are cheeper to repair if anything goes wrong but thats a rarity. And did you know ford owns volvo?
The best trucks there are in my opinion are built out of solid metal and weigh allot but also last very long. You can get a never restored mac or peterbilt from the 60's here that still runs like a dream. New gen trucks especialy euro trucks are built with a life expectancy between 7-10 years and possibly over 1million kilometers, versus the older trucks run as long as you want them to and never realy give up on you. Plastic is a very big sin in my opinion to be put into cars and especialy trucks. I tend to dislike imports for the high plastic content and limited life.
My dream is to one day buy an old 1970's peterbilt and convert it to a daily cruiser. meaning that I remove the tracktor trailer hitch and cover the rear and shorten it and just drive it like an automobile with high performance tires and posibly a hoped up motor... That would be sweet.
Also long hauler truck drivers tend to be the most polite drivers on the road in my experience as they apreciate the size of the beast and the breackability of other cars. Now dump truck drivers are usualy idiots with led foots and a tendency to give people road rage.

Ford owns Volvo:( I just lost most of my respect for volvo now :)
I have to disagree about the import car thing though, most american cars are junk compared to imports. While i see your point about the US trucks being better built than the import ones.

Ur kidding me rite? Dude the longest lasting cars in this country are made from ford, gm and mopar. People think that they buy an american car that cost next to nothing they will get a reliable beast. Sorry thats not how it goes, hell even import cars that are cheep dont last very long.
If you would like I can show you my buddys odometers from his pops two ford cars that if you add them together they traveled over 1,000,000 miles. Now point me two imports that will match the reliability of these things, and best of all both the cars havent had any major truble in their lifetime.
If you maintain your car it will last, but if your an idiot it wont. The whole thing about imports lasting longer is bs as they are esentialy computers with weels that diagnose on the go so idiot mechanics can fix them. It takes a real mechanic to work on a car that dosent have mutch electronics.
My profesor has a chevy caprice clasic from 1989 and hes owned it since new, that thing has over 270k miles and has never seen anything out of the ordinary of changing oil and brackes. The trany runs strong and the motor is dam near silent (350ci motor) But if he wants to he can peal out in the thing like his tires were made of butter.
I hate when people caracterise all american cars as crap. If thats so then you should caracterise every jag as crap because idiots tend to fry their electrical systems. and every french car as a completly rusted out POS.
(Yes where I come from french cars tend to be caracterised as rust mobiles)

Citroen, renault, puegot etc. ( I may not have spelled the names correctly but you get it)
Those manufacturers have a reputation of rusting like no tomorrow.
My uncle jokes (he lives in switzerland) and says french cars rust b4 they are built. He went on to say that one of his buds bought a 2 year old french car that had underbody rot alredy. But in my opinion a car is as good as the person treats it.

I only have 2 rules when i'm buying a car
1. Never buy a white car (pretty obvious this one)
3. Never buy french cars

White is a colour that hides all kinds of sins. Which is why most vans are painted white as it hides small dents and scratches.
On the subject of reliability the current record holder is a volvo which has done over 7,000,000 miles. It is in the US and has been owned from new by one guy who has only replaced parts through regular maintenance. It has never broken down and is still on the original engine.

I seem to remember reading about some guy (a salesman who did silly mileage every year) who had a mark 1 golf that had been round the clock some ridiculous number of times, and the only major component he'd had to reaplce was the clutch. IIRC VW gave him a brand new Golf in exchange for his so they could check out exaclty why his car had lasted so long

Probably 200-series. Not too subtle but definitely tank-like. My parents had one and once a (French) car drove into the back of use at the lights. They probably wrote theirs off and there was no damage to be found on ours.

I saw that volvo on tv once. Very nice example of maintenance going along way.
In my opinion any car can last long if you dont abuse it and maintain it.
I seem to recall a ww2 benz diesel that had an odometer rolled over a cuple of times.
Then again I have seen trucks with rolled over odometers and it actualy isnt uncomon.

There was an article in 911 & Porsche world about one guy who maintained his early 80's 911 so well that it has near 400,000 miles on it. It has something to do with how your car is engineered, but you've got to treat it right.

I know a peugeot 205GTI with 300K + miles on the clock in every day use and no rust. In fact I know two but the second one only has 250K miles
I know a Peugeot 406 2ltr Diesel with 350K miles on it that looks like new.
Not all french cars suck...:D

Like I said if you maintain it will last. Then again modern day french cars that are diesel use italian diesel motors or british ones.
