Such sillyness. I have VNC installed on my 4 year old daughter's computer. I sometimes take control of the mouse to mess with her.
"Mommy, My computer is clicking for itself" (of course she runs off to mom, not to me)

there really was a genuine reason for trying this out, I was seeing I could see my firewall settings on this PC using VNC, some firewall programs prevent you from doing so via VNC and could'nt be bothered to get and fire up my Laptop so I thought I'd try it from here via my server, back to here again...
I get the feeling, I'm not making this very clear:o)

:) when I was trying to describe the effect to Cheebs I said "you know when you hold a mirror infront of another mirror, you get that tunnling that goes on forever..."
perhaps we're related;)

Well, I am a 1/4 Polish and a 1/4 Croat. Unfortunately the buck stops there
So, with VNC, I could "make clicks" on another computer, if I figured out how to set it up eh? Hrmm, I'll have to look into this. Sounds interesting

I thought everyone had heard of VNC
Ahwell, it's cool but it's a little laggy, and doesn't work as well as RDC

I've 'heard' of it yes, but I never followed up on what it was for, what it does or how I could utilize it in a given setup. ^_^

RDP > Tight VNC > Any Other VNC IMHO.

RDP (remote desktop protocol) and RDC (remote desktop control) are the same thing yes?
The M$ remote desktop app'?

I've never used Remote Desktop...cheebs keeps telling me its better, but I can't see how it can be better that Tight VNC as I want no more from it than I get, over a local network it's as fast I need...infact I think I even turned the Remote Desktop service off (can't remember)
I like Tight VNC because you can save the settings of your regular "targets" so that all you have to do is double click on a Tight VNC icon it creates and hey presto all the resized (12/13 I find best) screen sizes and compression ratios are exactly how they were last view B) ...I have no idea if thats the same for RDP coz like I said, I've never tried it ?

i guess if i had to make a choice it would be vnc for windows and ssh for linux ssh in windows almost useless.

RDP seems much more responsive than Tight VNC, even on a lan. The only downside (or maybe upside) is that it doesn't give you direct console access (unless you run server 2003 and tell it to) and it also resizes to the screen you're on... which can be a good and bad thign. Good because it fits... bad because it hoses up my tool palette layouts in Visual Studio (going from a 1280x1024 x 2 to a 1024x768 or under in RDP usually). It's kinda bad on dual screen systems.
There VNC really blows though - only gives you access (IME) to the primary screen. Everything else you have to right click, move from the task bar and pull it onto the primay screen

I'll attest to that as well. Even on a lan connection VNC can be slow. If you're going to use VNC though I like ultravnc. Unlike realvnc it can accept ingegrated windows authentication in the free version, well there is no pay version of ultra. I do prefer vnc over rdp from a security standpoint. Any time I enable vnc access through the internet (just for home machines) I change the port. That's "possible" on rdp so I've read but I've never gotten it to work.

Check this article (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306759) I use it all the time works really well. So you got another vote for RDP, i'll even use it over dial up if necessary

I'll have to try that. I'd really rather rdp into my home machine but I don't want to open the default port.
