my quest for a near silient wind blower continues...
Can you guys help?
I'm beginning to realise I need a fan with more "push" than my pabst offers on my HS, but I also want it to be quiet as my PC is in my bedroom (don't be jealous)
I've heard a lot of good things about various makes, panaflo's etc
Ideally I'd like something with good CFM's and low db at lowers voltages, that I can speed up using my rheobus, if required (in the morning or afternoon when I wake up.)
Please don't go to the trouble of links etc, just give me some names and I'll do the googling.
Cheers

oh yeah...I'd also like it to be speed monitored, coz u know...I'm a geek:o)

hehe ... sit tight for a bit and wait for more responses^_^ The L1As are still the favorites as far as i can tell... Bill used some aluminium bodied fans in his HTPC silverstone mod Have a butcher's (http://www.wizdforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1101) I dont remember what they were off the top of my head, but there were 2 or more going into an HTPC so they have to be fairly quiet.

OMG!! 1000 posts!

The alu' frame fans are Evercool, there's a couple of places in the UK that sell 'em but they never seem to have them in stock.
Apart from that and the Panaflo, there's some Noiseblocker Ultra silent 92mm fans and the Vantec Stealths.

those Evercools look nioce, but I'd have to get a gasket for it for sure as the metal on metal action between my SLK and it would surely make my case sound like a tuning fork, not that that's a prob.

congrates m8, now if you can just give me some around..:mellow:mmm 83 I'd be most grateful

but I'd have to get a gasket for it for sure
You can make gaskets out of old mouse mats. I have done it to isolate speakers and it works very well. The best mouse mats have the hard plastic top and a neoprene backing which you can normally peel off. A bit of isopropynol (sp?) will clean off any glue and leaves a nice big sheet to make gaskets from. ^_^

Yeah, thats a cool idea.

You don't even have to make a full gasket as 4 rubber washers/grommets would suffice.

Sorry warpoc, I thought you were talking about a case before not a heatsink http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/redface.gif

been using mouse mats for gaskets / sound dampening for blooming ages. I think i even documented it in my Oxymoron thread. They work pretty good to be honest.

The evercool alu fan frames are ugly.

Check that one out - made (well, sold - not sure who OEMs for them) by coolermaster. Frame probably polishes up really nice!

Damn Starbuck that's nice...kinda industrial... I just did a searchy and could only see it in a 80mm or 120mm :( shame...may be I should look harder for a 92mm but its not even mentioned on their site...
the figures on the 120 aren't bad either
56.10 CFM, 23.0 dBA,

Yeah, they're nice figures. I'll be they have a 92 version soon... but hell, 120s own. Adapter.

I don't think I have the room, I've got a strange set up of a fan blowing onto the top part of the motherboard above the HS/Fan, any adapter would lift the HS too close to it I think, I could give it ago, with some Polymorph I guess...worth a ponder, as the extra fan would become kinda redundent anyway coz of the extra CFMs the 120 would provide....just thinking out loud reallyl
