Let me know how this sounds...

I just got off the phone explaining my case mod idea to a retailer/modder.

I bought another one of these: http://www.maxpoint.com/products/pccase/spec_pg/cs5190/ (http://www.maxpoint.com/products/pccase/spec_pg/cs5190/)

Since the shops price was $285, I was able to get them to drop it down to $189 (I found another retailer with that price). If I had bought the case direct (form the drop shipper) I would have paid $189 even, but since I decided to have them make some cuts for me, I paid $200 for the case to ship to them, then another $40 for the cuts (dual 120's for a Black Ice Pro 2 and 2 drill holes for the tubing). Since I plan on putting the rad and fans on top of the case (so I don't lose any inside room), I explained myself to him, but he said that my idea wasn't sound. I want the first cut over the PSU bay and the second and drill holes to enter the case form the middle. He said something about how I shouldn't be exhasting hot air from outside into the case, on the premise that when the fans bring the air inside from the rad, all that heat will hurt the airflow. So, I told him that I had my case that way once, but it made everything too hot and he didn't seem to believe me . He seemed to prefer it if I used the fans to blow the hot air from inside the case out the top, and then told me that he didn't want to make the first hole over the PSU bay, because there's too little airflow there. That's not what I want done. I want the first hole up there, so that the end of the rad will more easily rach the tubing from the chipset, and then drop down to my res a bit more easily. Does it matter if air blows onto the top of the power supply?

Secondly, he seemed to think my general idea is going to look ugly, and seemed more concerned with how it could look than what I want done. I don't care how it looks to him, I think it's gonna look neat to put 2 aluminum fans under a thin radiator and then wrap it with modders mesh, all on top of the case.

My question is, if I was paying you to mod something for me, would you disagree with my idea and do your own thing, and still feel you should charge me? I feel sort of bad right now, I don't know if he will agree to do what I want completely, or if he will do his own thing (put the rad cuts in the middle).

If he does, return it. It's not what you ordered. It's not up to him how you mod the case, it's up to you. Personally once he started throwing his opinion about I'd have hung up the phone and gone elsewhere. You don't need someone else to tell you what you want on YOUR case.

I would have loved to ease drop on that conversation :h34r:

I listen and only give suggestions if asked to.

Its the customers perogative if they want a wacky or non functional mod. I just keep my mouth shut cause the mortgage doesn't pay itself.

It went off topic quite a bit... Anyway, I'm not going to bother and am waiting for the next best thing B)

I will mod the case I already have with my idea using my AC Airplex EVO 240 grill and a jigsaw. Even if I screw up, the grill will cover up any innacuracy. Now, it's time to paint my fans.

That case was fulgy too. It looked like that thing the jawa's drove about in in starwars. I think your DIY effort will look much better Fibbs.

I remind myself of that on a regular basis. Some days its the only thing that keeps me from decking some twat.

It was.

I think it's pretty awful that they tried to tell him how he should have the mod done aswell.
As Bill & Star said, first rule of good customer service is to listen and do what the customer requests. Unless there is some over-bearing reason why you should interject, don't.

That's what attracted me to it, the slanted front and the fact that it was $60 and I didn't end up giving a cent out of pocket. I like it so much I decided to buy another, but then this fiasco happened and now I'm going to hold off until next month or so and possibly pick up a LL PC7 Plus from somewhere else. My DIY effort is going with the one that's already here, and if I had only realized the AC Airplex 240 grill matched up to a Black Ice Pro 2, this wouldn't have ever happened <_< DIY still means rad on top ^_^

The only real downside is that the BIP2 came with 2 universal 3/8" threads, which I had to fix by ordering 2 Innovatek 1046 discharge fittings, I hope they fit.

Why not name names? If there's a company out there who are difficult to deal with then it would be useful to know about it. Your call Doc.

I only had an issue this one time, and I've been using them for years now. He actually called me, to discuss it instead of sticking to the frantic back and forth emailing.

The final word, as of right now is, he will do whatever I want simply because I want it. That's the point I was trying to make and I'm sure it's going to be referenced iin the future.

Fair enough then. The guy did the right thing in the end.
