View Full Version : Why watter cooling...

ok well i know the benefits of watter cooling but seeing everyones watter cooling setups just makes me feel poor... :( but modding wize i honestly think you could make your system look just as cool with air cooling... i mean who wouldent want a dinner plate sized heat sink over their cpu...

but for the most part i skip over the watter cooling parts of peoples work logs because im poor (well its kinda complicated i have lots of money but i cant spend it... [read bottom of post]) and it makes me feel even worse because if i could spend my money i would go right out and guy a top of the line wc system...

anyways its kinda annoying for me... especialy under my cercomstances... becasue its hard to dream and know its out of your reach when you have the money to do it.

[We lost health inssurance so im on dissability witch is were i get my health coverage and they give me money but i cant spend it on anything i want... the stuff i can spend the money on (food clothing so on) i already have plenty of so the money just sits in my bank account. Furthur more if i work so i have money that i can spend on my self i lose dissability and the health coverage it gives me... and we cant get helth insurance because they want to charge $800 a month just for me because of my dissability.]

Wow man, that's a hell of a situation to be in. Too bad you can't barter food for laundered money ;)

For me, I watercool because it was a challenge, it provided a darn good overclock, and its very quiet. Which is good.

I know how you feel zer0. I was rejected when I applied for regular medical insurance. One place was willing to accept me, but at a $2000 a month premium, I don't even make anywhere near that! Luckily, there's a health insurance pool here that will accept anyone who can't get covered normally, and since a standard provider turned me down, I got in (they have requirements, like being rejected etc). I pay $250 a month for a $500 deductable, and this coverage is the cat's meow, as they say. Everything is cheap, and I can see any doctor I want, I don't even need a referal! Look up "Health or Medical Insurance Pool" in Google, and see if there's one in your state. They're lifesavers.

Now, I like aircooling, but I got to the point where I wanted to doodle with my computer a bit more, and water cooling was the path I chose. I really like it now, because it is quiet and very fun to mess with and plan systems around. Eventually I am going to build a 3/8" ID system, so I can use some American and Australian blocks too.

i supose i could say i spent the money on food but im shure the government monitors my bank account and any other account tied to my ss# (witch means i cant trnsfer the $ to another account and buy my stuff from there...)

i do have to say Dark Magic is kinda pushing it... :(
but hey atleast on not spending $ on buying windows and other software because i use linux and every app i would have to buy to do what i do in windows has a roughly = replacemnt that i can get for free by useing linux... (it kind equiles its self out 649.99 = photoshop Gimp = free dreamweaver = $399 nvu = free)

Look up "Health or Medical Insurance Pool" in Google, and see if there's one in your state. They're lifesavers. the only ones i can find are for extramly low income famalies but we are roughly middle class dad is self employed and so is my mother (dads a painter and mother is a book keeper) witch means we cant get health insurance though a job (that was what we were geting but the company closed down so now my mom is self employed)

(also kinda weird is that my moms income counts twords my dissability so if she works any more i lose dissability so she cant work more to earn any more money so we can afford issurance... on top of all the other bs we have to deal with life realy sucks thease past 3 years have been the worst but my goal is to be walking by 20 and im on my way twords that goal and i hope by then i can begen to live with out all this bs from everyware being piled on top of us...)

ok ok i guess this is turning in to a my life sucks thread .... what it does... ok fine ill stop...)

Don't worry about it man, sometimes you just gotta get it out. I'll move the thread if you like, or start a new one in general disc and bitch away (I do it plenty!)

ha its ok honestly i didnt mean to bitch about it i love my life and wouldent trade it for anyother...

but honestly back on toppic why does everyone deside to not air cool when modding...

(then again if you think about it this is the forum to a watercooling store...)

I think it goes back to what Star said. It's more challenging to water cool than to air cool. To also be able to overclock pretty far and not worry about bleeding ears because of how loud the fan is.

Andit wasn't that way about 2 or 3 years ago, or back when modding was in its infancy (mid to late 90s). Its become more common these days.

Im sure things will imporve Zer0 .... /me sends positive thoughts stateside ;)

I first started watercooling for 2 reasons. My HSF was wayyyyy to loud but it had to be because of the overclock i wanted, it needed silencing. Secondly (and probably primarily) i just wanted to. Im so glad i did, its more work to maintain than Air bit its much better fun.

Why not strive for a completely aircooled case thats also silent. Believe me it is possible if your clever. A mate of mine is working towards this as hes not interested in water in his case at this time and he is doing rather well it has to be said. Hes not an aesthetic modder at all though it has to be said. Function over form for him, but that doesnt mean its messy.

I did it for the challenge. I've done modding, albeit to a limited extent but i got my case how i wanted it to look so i was satisfied. I saw watercooling which immediatly interested me so that was next on the list. The next itch to scratch is HTPC i think. I need a hi-def display first so i'm feverishly saving for a plasma just now.

I would like to come back to modding more, infact i would like to custom build a HTPC case but i'm limited by tools and lack of workspace. As well as skills, money and time. lol

I haven't actually got there yet with regard to water cooling. I've been planning to for about 2 1/2 years but I've not been able to afford it since there's always something else first (uni fees, bills blah blah) but i'm determined to get it sorted this summer.
I already bought a couple of bits from Fibb's so I'm partly there but my reasons for doing it are improved temps, lower noice levels and because it looks so friggin' cool! http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I've got the kit, just waiting to set it up. I can't remember how i raised the funds to buy it all at 15 though  :p

I got into watercooling because I wanted a quieter computer and mainly because it looks cool and is something that not great amounts of people have.

I spent ages saving and planning too and now I've got it I love it. It's great fun playing with it. The only problem now is that's very quiet I'm trying to get it silent. Nearly there now but need to do a bit more on it first.

I hear you Darv thats how i feel! It gets very addicitve, as Dr F can testify to:p. I quite often find my self at quiet times planning a new loop or how to make a completly silent computer.

I'm collecting bits and ideas for my first watercooling setup.

I used to have far too many noisy fans hanging off a Digidoc, but mainly use just 2x 120mm fans at the moment. The fans on my cpu and graphics card are still too noisy.

I saw some AC gear (the Cuplex EVO) in a mag some time ago, and it looks the bomb. Looks, reduced noise and a chance to create something you can't buy off the shelf (yet!) over increased maintenance - I'll go with that. ^_^

zer0 - Is it only clothing and food that you're allowed to spend money on, or could you use some to 'purchase a PC for educational needs' ?

Oh yeah! I believe I still owe you guys a pic or 2.

I love to go to Performance PC's and browse the cases, then plan water cooling setups around them. Only now am I actually getting around to actually building one.

As can i! Ive only had my loop running since may last year iirc and ive already go the bits for the second loop in the HTPC. I made it a mission to build as cheap a loop as i could. Bought a spir@l block and 120mm rad for 30 quid, got a 1048 in the post that was 20, and a bag of random bits of tube and fittings and hose clamps and UV dye etc.. for 15. Ill be building a res from plumbing waste i think so that wont cost anything really. Im mid way through a quick and dirty 120mm PSU mod and there are passive sinks on the NB and GPU so there will only be the 2 120s in the entire case B). Ill post a mini log when i get round to doing it.

Sounds good :D Infact, i remember seeing your Chieftec/ Antec on Bit-tech, did you ever write a log for it? It looked damn fine might i say ^_^

Thanks Leeum, Im looking forward to getting the pump ... I'll probably attempt to clean the hoses this weekend. Almost time to shut the thing up ... ^_^ Shame the missus isnt as excited! .... they just dont get it!

Oxymoron (http://www.wizdforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=598&highlight=oxymoron) :) That was phase 1, integrating the watercooling. Phase 2 is coming soon to a wizd near you ^_^ I have some interesting plans for it, at least i think they are interesting. It involves some carbon fibre and lighted plexy and a custom rheobus. More news as i get supplies .... B)

well um i kinda already did... but i mot a mother whos a book keeper and watches every penny...

anyways i do think watter cooling is cool but has any of you thought about makeing a custom heatsink... as compared to a custom waterblock just an idea
