Right here. (http://forums.2cpu.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=62576&perpage=30&pagenumber=1)
The kicker is, the size, CPU layout and block mounting holes are exactly the same as on my K8T Master 2Far. If I ever want to take Metaversa down the SLI path...
I better stop thinking now. I haven't even finished the darn thing. <_<

Naah, that's not evil.
Suggesting that this baby would swap straight into PRIME without any added surgery is evil. :D

Tbh, i think going SLi would go against what you've acheived with the GPU Block and the clean looking loop. I think AGP does have some life left in it for ATi consumers, SLi just isn't practical. I know myself i would never use or have the need for SLi unless games demanded that much power.
Pop in an X800 Pro, go on you know you want to ^_^ :D

Oh, yes, I want to. In fact, an AGP version of the 850 is coming out soon. Luckily the Rialto bridge chip is on the topside of the card, not the GPU side, and it's passively cooled. So I can just retro-fit the Maze4GPU block.
SLI is a bit too much for Metaversa --the rad wouldn't support it. Moreover there aren't any decent looking blocks for the GF 6800 series in large tube diameters (I just don't like the DangerDen one, tbh). So not in this project, I'm afraid...

Aargh... more pressure. nVidea has upped the number of games that support SLI to about 75... Must... resist... upgrade...
Strangely though, this includes Unreal, Unreal Tournament and Quake 3. What do those need SLI for? I mean, they ran pretty smooth on my old PII 266 with a Diamond Viper V330 already!
What do they want? Framerates of 1000fps?!? :p

They did that over a month ago, so i'd anticipate even more fairly soon, whats more they've setup their own webbie for SLI related stuff.

I heard mention that SLI would be getting the same update treatment the Forceware drivers used to get, which would suggest a couple of mods a month. Whats more I believe there will be 3rd pty contributions to boot.

Hey, I can make ANY loop look clean! ^_^

Why do i get the feeling that the sale of your CM might be partly funding one of these and an SLi setup? ;)
Vis
11th April 2005, 21:23
Well I wouldn't if it was me. I never really understood the need for SLI anyway from a cost/performance point of view. You have the law of diminishing returns kicking in there bigtime. Especially with liquid cooling and all the extra cost involved in that. Of course if you find yourself in the happy position of being able to use twenty pound notes as toilet paper then good luck (and can I borrow a fiver?)

I would be inclined to agree with you --until you see Unreal 3, that is. Its polygon count makes Doom 3 look like Atari Battle Zone...
I don't see the need for it yet, but by next year... thenagain no doubt they'll have GPU then that is at least as fast as a dual SLI setup. We'll see.

The way i see things atm is i'm going to complete my project and not change any of the hardware. My next project in a few years time will have the latest stuff, this couldn't be a worse time to upgrade. Things are changing rapidly and i feel this is only the tip of the iceberg :D

Don't worry, I will finish Metaversa well before I do any upgrades... especially as CustomPC magazine has formally expressed an interest in featuring it in the "Readers' Drives" section. Woot! ^_^
And Vis, dude, everybody likes Battlezone!

And Vis, dude, everybody likes Battlezone! I thought you contacted them for it to go in 'Reader's Drives' not the other way round. You sure it isnt gonna be a main feature becoz it bloody well deserves to be! http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/rant.gif
The reader's drives of late have been pretty poor as well

I think some people look at SLI the wrong way. You dont have to buy both cards together! Buy one card and in a years time when you need an upgrade the cost of anothef card the same should have come down enough to make it more affordable.
Which is all well and good so long as some amazing new technology doesnt come out rendering your current card obsoloete.

13th April 2005, 10:57
But then there may be a small chance the cards are different in some way such as the PCB layout.

Yea, thats how the manufacturers pu it DRB but i understand success may be dependant upon identicle GFX card Bios (at least thats what BigZ leads me to believe but i could be wrong).
Da_Rude_Baboon

Card layout shouldnt be a problem so long as its the same chipset but the BIOS release would be a problem.

You're not wrong there Fil, it'll make a change seeing a quality project in there. I don't think i'll be renewing my susbscription when it runs out, last months' article on how to buy and sell things on eBay smacked of desperation to fill pages to me.
I get way better info round here than i do from there (yay WizD :p)

Well, originally when they started the mag they just canvassed everyone they knew of --i.e. all PC Pro subscribers (also a Future Publishing magazine). I told them about Metaversa and they said: "let us know when it is finished, we may be interested".
In last issue they were raving about how clean and neat the WC loop in the new Voodoo Rage F5 PC was, and how they doubted any modder could produce something that good-looking themselves. I then e-mailed them some recent shots of Metaversa's loop saying: "Excuse me?" <_< That is when they e-mailed back and said they definitely want it in Readers' Drives. ^_^
Main feature? I'd wish. But we'll see. ^_^
I think SLI may be here to stay. People are already adopting it (lets face it, two GPUs is just so much more... more! :D ), there are plenty of mobos coming out, games are getting graphically more demanding, and bigger, higher res monitors are getting more affordable (24" TFT by Dell, anyone?).
Although I predict by next year there will be a single GPU twice as fast as a dual SLI 6800 Ultra setup, people will want the opportunity to double that oomph as well. Heck, dual-core CPUs will be mainstream by then --people will want dual GPUs to match that (if for no logical reason then for some silly psychological notion of symmetry).

You have no idea how irritating I found that review.
It's a lovely piece of kit and all but a bloody rip off @ over £4,000. Esp. when you consider most folk could build just as nice a computer with the same power for a good amount less; and it was only the system unit http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/ph34r.gif
Metaversa deserves to be a featured mod, without a shadow of a doubt. Only thing is then you don't get your goodies http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif

MSI have some pretty neato stuff out. I'm thinking of buying their 754 nForce 4 4x (the 4x is the 'valuest' version) PCI-E and AGP (called AGR - Advanced Graphics Riser) as a quicky upgrade into PCI-E while being able to keep my AGP card. MY AMD64 completely owns and I have no regrets about buying a 754 so late into the cycle.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130493
The reason is actually 2 fold. My mom wants to be able to run the
3PlaneSoft (http://www.3planesoft.com/index.html) screensavers with decent detail, and since I love my AMD64, why not gut her Dell to build an AMD64 system? She's paying too, so I can't refuse! She would then recieve my board, and I need a new one ^_^
Even though they're billed as Screensavers, they're pretty system intensive. I use them to relax while looking at pretty graphics, and to check for artifacts when OC'ing my GPU. The Nature one is so beautiful, I often get lost daydreaming I'm there when i watch it too intensively. With my 3.0, it ran around 12 FPS max at 1280 x 1024 @ 32. Same res and color on the AMD64 runs from 40 - 60 FPS, depending on how much stuff's going on screen.

Custom Pc will not be getting a my business when my sub runs out.
2 issues have filed to turn up and to be honest I dont even read the ones that do any more as its total crap. On top of that I am still waiting for my cheque for the expences they owe me from modfest LAST JULY

Yeah, the mod magazines in this country are really poor, I'm certainly loath to buying them again, esp. when you learn far more from the forums than you do in print.
My subscription to CustomPC was still getting sent to my old address last time I checked, so I haven't read it for a while... :o)
I never got my Modfest expenses either, nor any compensation for the damage to HexaDragon and my Lian Li.
This was supposed to be in the hands of Symbiosis iirc tho', fw(little)iw.
Still haven't fitted that Intel mobo I won either.... *note to self* - Get some more DDR.
[OnTopic] Wowz @ the MSI.

[On/Off] You know, this happens all the time here! Fun stuff!!!
Speaking of DDR, I bought 2 512mb sticks of Mushkin Value RAM for $50 shipped (about 25 Pounds) from a forum trader with insanely high Heat (www.heatware.com (http://www.heatware.com) - a rating system sorta like eBay).
