As you may know i've started work on my first mod. The case is a Chieftec Matrix MX-01WD in steel. I decided to give the back a little rub over with Autosol polishing to cream to see if it made it any better, bad idea.

As you can see it's left a nasty mark. Originally i wasn't planning on touching the inside frame of the case with any paint but i'm considering it as an option right now, this brings me onto the next dilema. Pretty soon i'll take the outside panels of the case to a painter to have them done properly, no job for a 15 year old kid who can barely lap a block or vinyl dye.

As you can see here the bottom of the case will have to be de-riveted and also painted with the outside of the other panels. How will i be able to do this if i spray the insides as it means the inside of this panel will have to be done? If i spray all of the bottom panel with the same colour as the insides it'll look strage against the different coloured side panel once it goes back on. Does this also rule out the option of getting it silver powder coated? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

From what I've seen you do already, I believe you could handle painting it yourself. There appears to be a working brain beneath that mop top of yours ;)

If you are considering going with powdercoat, they can mask off that painted portion of chassis with sillicon tape. Even of they didn't, you can sand and paint over powdercoating.

btw: Heres a good guide (ftp://ftp.sybex.com/4360/4360ch08.pdf) on painting your case/bezel

Ah good :) Any idea how much it would cost roughly for the frame? I was planning on sanding the panels down anyway, that textured paint the Chieftecs come with is nasty

Here in the states, I'd estimate between $35 - $75 depending on the outfit.

You'll need to show them whatever screw holes you don't want powdercoated. They'll insert silicon plugs in those holes so they don't gunked up

You could always line the bottom with either acoustic foam or bling it out with self-adhesive mirror vinyl... just a thought. :)
