Darn, I wish I registered a catchy domain a few years before this 'net stuff' was big and valuable. -_-

but www.whatismyip.com is useful. it tells you, easily, what your ip is. no extra bs.

Maybe I am just weird but why don't people just do an ipconfig? Why would a dial up user even care to see the IP anyways?

^ same reason people pay geeks to clean up spyware on their pc.

For those of us behind corporate firewalls, or with complex network setups (me at home and at work), knowing the IP that you're being seen as on the rest of the net is a great tool - something ip config can't tell you if you're being NAT'd or PAT'd out to the 'net. I used it last week during a cut over from 10.1.1.X to 172.28.116.X so that i can better have security operations do network scanning (they couldn't get to 10.1.1.x behing my firewall b/c it was not recognized by the core routers, where as the 172.28.116.X series is.). But, that series of ips isn't routable on the net, so it has to get PAT'd to the outside interface of my firewall, but not for all destinations. you see, very quickly, how this gets handy.
I had whatismyip for 'inet addresses. AIS (admin information systems) diagnostic for within the core network, and ipconfig /all and tracert for everything else :)
