View Full Version : A fool and his PSU
Risky

For some reason I fealt competted to attack a perfectly good Neopower PSU this evening. I am plannign to use a couple of small 240V neon indicators so I can see if the psu is connected, or switched on from inside the case (A little reminder for me, you see). The red neon goes accross the power socket pins and the green is the other side of the switch.
After much ado I have a nice tidy hole in..... the roof of the psu  so I wouldn't be able to see it. Will do again correctly tomorrow, I guess.
Now that I'm right way up I realised I really need to be able to discoonect tehm if I open the PSU case up again. Any ideas on good connectors fro a disconnect. At the moment the old fall back of scre terminals is looking good.

Hehe, reminds me of the time I 'window-modded' my floppy drive... :D
[Semi-OT] PSU in Hex blew up last week. My 120mm modded one - I think I left it too long between dust cleanings. :(

That's the _'cos I can_ mantra coming into effect... combined with a dash of 'Ooh, I wonder why no-ones ever done this... *whirr*, *bzzing*, *brrrrr*, *plink*... oh... That's why!' :D

I've got that 'I wonder why' mentallity too, but also the 'i hope no-one has done tihs before' attitude, at least with what i refer to as 'my new project'- a set of amorphous ideas that are constantly changing in my head as to what i build next.

SO what did happen exactly pug? Did it do anything spectacular or just stop working?

It ended up with four holes drilled and no lamps fitted as I wanted to get the rig rolling again..........later....?

Oh no... it still works. (the *bzzt* etc was my crappy dremel impression :p )
It's just that, well, you never see the top of a floppy drive do ya?..
Saying that - it mainly gets used as an external drive nowadays, so it ain't so bad. ;)
