View Full Version : Ultimate Race Sim Cockpit Project? FIA-spec based design

Pug

Been messing with some simulator designs in SketchUp lately and happened to come across the FIA specs & measurements for driver safety cells.
Didn't take long to incorporate them into one potential build candidate, so I thought I'd offer it up for discussion/feedback as appropriate. :)

PC hardware will be housed in the rear section (which may well be remodelled later).

I also happened across a scale illustration of an F1 car to compare it against and it seems to line up rather nicely. B)

It's even called Bruno.

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of one of these...

and some of these...

Nice sketch-up work Pug.

Just curious as to how you'll do cold air intakes for pc system.

all this car talk, me needs to run few laps of LFS now

Ta m8. :)

Well, twin rads may be in order... so they'd get the intake.

I've been dreaming on housing them behind something like this kinda grille -

I presume the radiators would go in orange portion of rear?

How about 2, vents w/ 120mm fans that looked like rear brake ducts.. (rear of driver position) vented upward to system compartment..

Not really neccessary, but fun :D

Well, I was thinking of the Model T grille on the front but it's all speculation & theory at this stage... originally, I'd thought of mounting them at the sides with a floor pod like an F1 car but then I'd like to keep an essence of the radical flavour rather than getting too purist about it.

Not really neccessary, but fun :D
Heh, isn't that just half the point of everything we do. :D

So will this be a sorta full sized cockpit with intergrated pc? Nothing more extreme than F1, good pick Pug :)

It's kinda looking that way but with function & form in plentiful amounts hopefully. ^_^
I just feel like doing something radical like you lot are... summer's a-coming and the boys need their toys. :D

Cheers. :) but then, if I went for a rally shell, I'd never get it in the door!
...and I'm reckoning we could go a little more extreme than F1 if we add a little sumthin' from the moddin' & roddin' cupboard.

No matter what you do...you HAVE TO put real slicks and have them mounted behind you. That would kick arse.

MNPC are choppers and hot rods road legal and if so do they have to pass some sort of test?

The only testing we've had was emissions testing, but its been discontinued due to budget cuts in our state. Thank Gawd, cause people like me were getting hit with fines for choosing to keep older cars on the road.

Bascially you can drive just about any creation on the road providing it has state license plates (front and back) and safety features such as front/rear bumpers, headlights/tailights @ legal height from ground (12" I believe) and seat belts...You don't need turn signals if you perform hand signals. A lot of chopper guys don't like turn signals on their bikes. Theres probally a law on how long your bike's front forks can extend in Minnesota. I think theres also certain requirements for tire sizes on cars. You can't drive down the street with huge dragster style slicks on back ^_^ I'm sure there some other minut details I'm forgetting

Mmm, SnowCrash NetSurfer. Company seems to have dropped of the face of the earth tho... shame. <_<

Had a radical redesign session on this whole thing again now... was just droppin' this in for tearing apart as a conceptin the 1st instance.

Dutch - yup, I love my THX setup, so that would have to be incorporated.

Rude - bin looking at Tactile Transducers amonst other things but there's a few options out there... Aura Bass-shakers seem to be cheap as chips in the US (for 25Watters, anyway - tho' I'd want 50Ws at least).

Dayum Bill! B)
