Is there any way to make the fass-o-matic res a bit better at keeping air trapped in it as it tends to let air get sucked down by my pump?
Any help would be great

I haven't had that problem at all, but I have the pump intake at the bottom and the block out lines to the two side ports.
Waht pump are you running?

A 1250 I think it could be a bit to powerful but until i have soem more money i am stuck with it do you think that is why? Also could you suggest a better option?
Mine is setup with the res mounted horizontally with the side ports going down to the pump and the back top port coming from the blocks

Oh side ways, not so good as and Airtap I guess........ Hang on, which hole are you using in the back from the blocks? would it help if it was the top one (at the expense of a bit of water noise, perhaps?

Hmmm,
Is the problem that you can't bleed enough air out of the res? or is it fairly full and the pump is just too hard?

when the res is vertical (Because I can take it out of the bezel) there is about a 4mm gap from the top of the res to the start of the water level. I personnally think the pump is a bit to strong for the type of res as I had no problems with my old bayres i used to have due to how it was set up

That might be the case, although our resident 1250 lover (^_^ ) could better explain why it would be bad to use the 1250 with a 1/4" reservoir hole :(.

Ive had the same problem with the Aquabay AT with an Ehiem 1048 and the Aquatube. Whole system has shutoff and needs syphoning to fix! Yuck!

Filltank!
The above scenarios are a really big reason I love and swear by filltanks. With one, the pump always has a supply of water from an unrestricted source.
Here's mine:

I think fibbs was referring to me (or dutchcedar) as the resident 1250 lubbers. For what you're doing, the 1/4" inlet is absolutely killing your flow. the 1250 breathes best with a (massive) 3/4" inlet. I went from a 1/2" inlet to a 3/4" inlet + custom res a few months ago, and the time to bleed the system went from a few hours to just under 5 minutes. Awe inspiring I tell you.
Your best bet is to build a "blocker" w\in the fass-o-matic so that water cannot go directly from inlet to outlet, that it must go up and therefor loose any large bubbles in it, before being pulled into the inlet again.

I couldnt get 7/16" tubing over the included bard (grey/black one) and had to use a 1/2" barb.
