Im lookin at getting this Makita angle grinder from work, I know it grinds (lol) I was wondering if it could be used for cutting (better than a dremel anyways) or polishing?

Its just a big motor attached to a chuck right?

All angle grinders will cut but not exactly a replacement fror a dremmel.

Exact cuts are difficult at best, detail work is a no no. Beware of sparks starting fires.

In short If you are unsure of what it does its not for you.

Its basically a spindle attached to a motor.

I use a 4" angle grinder at home to smooth out protrusions on surfaces (ie. a rusted screw sticking out of a steel base or something)...definitely not for precision work as Knipex was stating. Probably way overkill for modders in general...although I can see Bill extreme enough to use one :)

BawHahahahaha!

Duffman, you plan on chopping up cases?! :D

I've never used an angle grinder on a case/chassis.. I may try metal grinding in panels sometime though.

Theyre great for grinding heavy gauge steel like this skull taillight cover (Psychosis project)

I was wondering if it could be used for [SNIP] polishing? It looks like it, with stunning results; click here (http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=53913)

(Hope nobody minds me linking to that)

mnpctech - I'd ask, but I'll just wait for the end result.

^ I'm guessing they used a bench top polisher, a lot easier than angle grinder

^^ Rotozip Rebel (halfway between a dremel & an angle grinder).

You can get mops and buffs to fit an angle grinder but with the rpm's a grinder puts out you get alot of heat and heat with paint = bad.

In my very first "mod" back about 98 or so I empowered an angle grinder, oxy/acety torch and a mig welder converting an AT case into an ATX. "Frankenputer" lived a long life up until I mothballed him around 2001.
