I was thinking of building a case from scratch, seeing how I got a job at a hardware store last week I got pretty much everything I need at my disposal. Anywho a couple questions.
Anyone ever work with Brass or Copper in PC mods? I want to use copper and weather it so it turns green, make it look old. Is there a way to speedup this prosess?
In any case, the PSU is on the front, it should save on cutting and the number of fans I have to use.
Heres a Mockup.

I've never tried do it, but what you're looking for is a chemical to make the copper patina faster. A bit of google should help. Neat idea!

Copper is nice..just know that its sorta "gummy" when you start cutting it. Very different from aluminum but if its in thin sheets then that point is moot. Look for patina chemicals to weather your copper green (with some heat). Google will give you tons of info on the topic :)

The key to machining copper has to got to be keeping the crap cool. Coolant pump or spray lubricant for your tooling is a must.

So I cant just cut it with a hacksaw or dremel? Thanks for the pointers on the weathering of the copper, there IS a ton of info out there. Im also thinking amber for the windows?

I cut 3/8" thick copper sheets on my bandsaw at about 5000FPM. A jigsaw will do it, but you'll need a metal blade and to go VERY VERY SLOW. If it starts binding up on you, slow down.

I looked into getting a copper case made up a couple of years ago (as no-one had done it).
...After working out the overall weight, I realised why no-one had done it! :D
Interesting prospect though... keep us posted. :)

You could always make it out of alu then put copper leaf over the top. Then maybe some kind of clear coat or lacquer to give it some protection.

My thought's exactly ('cept I'd moved on to Gold leaf :h34r: ;) )

I don't really like gold, i think it looks tacky most of the time, chrome and silver yay, gold nay.

Agree with ya on the gold. Nickel plating is my absolute fave though.

Chrome does look good but I think it's getting a little over used now.
Silver looks more elegant IMO.

'pends how ya do it tho'. ;)
Much as I'd love to spill the beans, my ideas get nicked a bit too often, so I'll incorporate it into this summer's project, k? :h34r:
I did do a Gold bezel a few years back that looked pretty spanky but the next one will be a little more subtle... :p
