crimsonsky's mod book is out!

Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0789731924/thebestcase06-20/002-9851790-2388805?creative=327641&camp=14573&link_code=as1)

Also avail @ major book stores like Borders, Barnes & Noble, BDalton

Paul Capello aka "crimsonsky" (thebestcasescenario (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com)) along with John Phillip's from Maximum PC magazine compile an easy to follow guide with FULL COLOR tutorials on all the popular aspects of modding ie: Modding tools, windows, painting cases (including getting started w/ airbrushing) off the shelf case modding, modifying a "found object" or "scratch built case", Water Cooling, Overclocking and theres lots more. Paul even shows you how to take professional photos of your case. The book is 320 pages and softcover

Seeing my name listed w/ my site URL next to photos I contributed was really nice. Paul Capello made a point to pull in a lot of well known modders into this book. More so than I've seen in the other mod book. See for yourself!
Heres a preview from my copy (no particular order)

I just ordered mine. ^_^ It has a LOT of info I need judging form your preview. Something I've been planning is pictured under the "exotic cooling" chapter marker (the Tank O Matic and Konvect O Matic on the side panel), I just need inspiration to actually do the work, hopefully this book will bring it.

Amazon has quite a few PC books. I hand't realized there was a huge market for how to guides for modding and basic creation yet. Maybe that's because it's not somethign I normally look for, so if MNPC hadn't posted this, I'd be dreaming of creating with no guide to get me started.

A lot of mod books out now. You'll find most of them in the PC hardware section of major bookstores. This one by far, has the broadest range of information and modder contributions I've seen.

"PC Chop Shop: Tricked Out Guide to PC Modding" has a very good chapter on painting cases.

Thanks Bill for getting this thread started!---Books have always been my first step in learning about many different crafts--I hope this one can be the same for those starting out with modding or perhaps interested in learning new techniques. Your contribution to the book helped to make it that much more special for a first time author like myself..many thanks.

It's the largest format, full color modding book out there ;) ...all the others are B&W with a few color plates in the center--no idea what they were thinking other than to save some money with printing and hope that no one notices--Books like this need to be rich and colorful in order to appreciate the hard work that we all put into our creations.

The book was written with all of you in mind--the people who make up the community forums and tirelessly help to inspire and support the art form. Cheers :)

couldnt find it on the uk amazon and i doubt it will be in bookstores in the uk because they are all filled with rubbish, its hard to find any specialist books on most things outside of the internet, and when you do find the books on the highstreet they are way too expensive compared to amazon :rant:a bit off topic but nevermind! looks like an interesting read

Wazup Crimson Sky!

Awesome job on the book

I'm looking at the guides and thinking "holy balls, the man never sept" I could tell you applied a crap load of time to the photography alone. Then I find the last section of the book is you sharing the entire photography process you implemented. That section should be mandatory! ;)

LoL---Your'e right I did NOT sleep for 4 months!--It's really difficult to plan a project, photograph each step (setting up lighting, tripod etc--took over 43GB of pictures) edit the photos and then have to write about it and make it interesting to read--Crazy stuff-

I was very lucky to have two great editors, Jon Phillips and Rick Kuhgen. They really made it all happen.

I've been reading a bit at a time on the Metro, riding to work each day. I also just picked up the "PC Chop Shop" at Borders today - I didn't even know about this one until I saw it on the shelf. Last but not least, I picked up a new Maximum PC guide "PC Troubleshooting - 101 Cures for your PC Woes". Lots of stuff is coming out, like you said.

Question - did you get an e-mail I sent you about a month ago? It was a PDF file documenting my "printer-to-computer-deja-vu" machine that I finished just after the holidays. It just won the Hot Mod contest at http://www.bgcg.net/hotmod/ (http://www.bgcg.net/hotmod/) B) (They referenced your site in the write-up by mistake; I don't mind being mixed up with one of the greatest modders!)

Ah yes, the book. I just ran across this thread, found the book, and ordered it within minutes. I cant wait to get it. Bill, your creations, especially the Pink Floyd Inc case, has inspired me to start doing my own mods. It looks like tons of fun. I have slightly been modding my ocmputer case and have been having a time doing so! i cant wait to get this book. I'll make some badass case, it will be cool.

Crimson, excellent job making the book. I cannot wait to get it!

'Don't buy the book!' :tempt: 'Buy the book!'

Evil wins! I've just ordered it too.

Only ordered the book itself as shipping doesn't get any cheaper - $8 or so (around 18 days to get here - I can wait).

Yeah, cheapskate - I know :D

I guess they must be relying on the gulf stream to get it to drift across the Atlantic.

They just put it in a raft, and pushed it off hoping it will get to you in time.

Im gonna stop by my locale bookstore, and pick it up if they have it. If not im gonna give em a throttling, and be teed off.

I saw the book on xoxide, and saw a link to pimprig.com in their picture of the inside cover, signed up for pimprigs contest, which in turn led me to mnptech's site, and thus here :) Long trip, but well worth it.

HAHA! Totally got the book, it's hott. I thought it was all about modding, but it's not. There is stuff in there about overclocking, a section on hardware burning in, other things! It's great, more than I expected. I have been looking for a difinitive guide on overclocking, and, although this may not be definitive when it comes to overclocking, it has a guide written by some masters. It's great, fun read as well. And since i work in the IS dept, I can read it during work and say it is work related!

I got this book in the middle of my first build. Great hands-on ideas to go with the more complicated stuff too.

Must-read. He even stopped in my modest worklog and said howdy! That was pretty cool.
