View Full Version : Aquastream pump Problems
Bradley
6th January 2005, 13:30
I purchased an Aquastream pump (direct from AC) and connected it all up, filled the system then removed the jumper block. The pump ran ok for a little while then stopped suddenly, the red LED started flashing 4 times and it refused to start again...
I then went out and purchased a second aquastream pump from a local UK stockist and i connected the new aquastream controller onto the old pump to see if it would work, as this would save me draining and disconnecting my loop...
The pump worked again, I was very happy... But only an hour or so later the same thing happened... 4 Flashes from the red LED and the pump wont go...
From this i figure it has got to be a problem with the original pump, so i connected the new pump to both controllers also using a different power supply only to get the same error.
Can anybody suggest anything i can do?
any help or suggestion would be very appreciated

Four flashes is for short at pump or cable. Make sure that nothing could be shorting it.
Does it do it when you are filling the system with the jumper in place?

dumb question: is the pump properly primed? can you shake it around a bit and try to dislodge any bubbles.

lol...
ive emptied the system out... gonna swap pump over and try again... doubt it will work because i think the controllers are malfunctioning.

Update...
Ive swapped the old pump over and put the new pump onto the loop...
tried both controllers, both wont work, 4 red flashes... so the other pump must be to blame...
im going to have to buy another controller while i wait for RMA from germany... i just hope that was the problem as i can't keep going through controllers, its becoming expensive...

What power supply do you have?
Bradley

What power supply do you have?Thats a good question...! I was waiting for someone to ask that, as i was thinking the same thing.... Even though i have tried the controllers on my other power supply to the same result, I had read in one of the posts that some of the old firmware controllers has a problem with certain psu's but it was supposed to be fixed now...
I have a generic 550w power supply as I am waiting for my Tagan back from RMA (never worked out of the box and looked like it had been fitted to a case before mmm)but i am going to buy another controller today and another Tagan as im very impatient and i cant wait... Its killing me being on my friends laptop (which im grateful for him lending it to me :) ) I just want to be back to full power and to be able to access my stuff...!

It could be worth a try as they were/are sensitive to voltage changes. Do you have another PSU to try or have you tried having only the aqua-stream and nothing else connected to the psu and see what happens?
Could be worth a try before you spend more money!

I think ive tried almost everything i could think of DRB...
Have connected Aquastream just on its own to both psu's = nothing!
they all worked on both psu's before but for some reason they just stopped...
Can only be a fault with the pump...
ive no idea what makes the controllers fault but once it has happened i know they wont work at all... even without the pump connected just controller on its own same fault flashes, where as before it would work ok...
I now have the new pump on the loop so when i connect the new controller if it doesnt happen again i will know it was the pump, if it does it again then im f**ked if i know what it is!!!

Silly question but are you using the same cable between the pump and controller each time?

Is it fixed?
When I first set up my system and Aquastream, I was pulling my hair out because I didn't realize there was a jumper and it was supposed to turn on and off repeatedly. Luckily I saved the instructions and checked them for any "info" I might have missed, then sighed the sigh of relief, which is what I hope you did.

I wish that was the problem m8, But unforunately it was'nt... I used the jumper (fill mode to fill the system) Then took it off... Im still convinced that it was a faulty pump...
I now have my new pump and controller on and new tagan... Everythings working fine so far... Fingers crossed...
The company is going to RMA the other pump and controller for me...
so hopefully my problems are over
Thanks everyone for all your help....
Much appreciated...!!!!

When I said "I hope that's what you did", I was referring to "sighing the sigh of relief", hehe  . That seems to be what you did do, and I hope it lasts for a long time. --> insert thumbs up smiley here <--
I've got a slight issue with a noise inside my case. Something is rattling. It's annoying the p!$$ out of me. It's not my hard drive, even though it sounds like something is continuously reading from it. Its gotta be a fan. I forgot to bolt my Aquatube to the top panel...

Pc seems to be working great will post some pics when i get home later...

You've got them sideways in the 3.5" thing on the bottom? The PC7077 came with a 4 disk bracket for sticking hard drives into 3 5.25 bays, and it is one awesome doohicky. It has rubber grommets over every hole, so my drives don't rattle and barely make noise anymore. I'm considering moving everything back into the PC75, but since I took out the 3.5" thing on the bottom (de-riveted) I'll need to pop rivet the current bracket down there. Plus, I would use my PC7077 top panel because I killed the other one. It would be a Frankencase. If I can't stop the rattling, I'll need lots of foam and sound dampening mats. Speaking of sound dampening mats, which ones work best?

Im not sure m8 as i havent looked into sound proofing... I figured i'd use the Aquaero to turn the fans down if its too noisy...!!!
Have you looked at the AC dampening pads?

I have a single AC sound dampening mat, and a pair of Innovatek pads. The AC and one Innovatek are pretty thick and smooth. The other (Innovatek) is thick and curvy, like an egg carton where the eggs would go. I have some Akasa pads, but they're rather thin, about half the width of the "thinner" Aqua Computer/Innovatek ones.
For fan control, I have a noise Isolator fan control/light switch 5.25 device. I'm going to buy an Aquaero VFD one of these days, but that controller was only $24, plus it controls 6 fans and 2 12v devices. When I turn my fans down, they rattle too much, and the knobs have a huge range, so I think the lowest setting might be 3-5v. The fans sputter on the lowest setting, so they probably aren't getting enough juice. Secondly, I am going to change my fans to something a bit nicer and quieter. Possibly Panaflo's if I find screws that are long enough (the Panaflos are 38mm's) or Pabst of some sort. I want, at least, 60 to 70 CFM of airflow and no more than 34 dba if possible.

I like the pabst (if thats how its spelt?) fans...
i think i need to do somethong to the case to aid a better airflow... but ill get to that when i have more time

What's the airflow like now? I only have my 2 fans on top blowing air in and a single 80 exhausting the hot air on the motherboard tray. So far so good. With my V2000 I had problems, I was uisng the case on my custom desk (plywood and 4 metal legs) stuffed into the corner of the closet with a 120mm in front that I forgot to plug in and another on the blowhole on top that I forgot to plug in. again "When I have more time" never came, hehe (I'm LAZY!) It would get soooo hot in there that my loud GPU fan would always be on full blast because of the heat. I did have a 120mm backside mobo tray exhaust but it didn't do any good. I went from that to water, so now every1 is getting the coolness they desire, after I tortured them.

My system temp is 40 degrees which i would have thought quite high for such a big case... But the room temp is very warm so it makes sense really... Its freezing outside so the GF has the heating on full throttle ;)

Hehe, no probs Brad. ^_^
Glad you sorted your pump. I'm still running an early f/ware revision (rev1.00, I think) and haven't had a prob from day one with mine, although I did have to send a bunch back on behalf of other people until rev 1.04 came out.

My Aquastream is a Rev 1 and I've not had any real problems from it in nearly a years use.
Okay the red light on the controller does flash quite often but it doesn't seem to be having any affect on the pump. It's done it ever since I started using it, seems to be quite random. One day I think I will take a look at it and make sure I've not done something stupid.

What's the difference between the 1st and 2nd revision? I've got a 2.0.
Darv
14th January 2005, 10:11
Oh well, if it does blow up I'll get a new controller.
The difference between the revisions is the controller. The rev 2 has better voltage control because it uses better parts and so is more reliable.
The rev 3 can be used to control two Aquastreams with an Aquaero I think. I'm sure Slame or someone can explain it better B)

Hi,
the main differences are the layouts of the platine. But as said before ..
Rev. 1 was the first
Rev. 2 better voltage controller, more quiet
Rev. 3 .. aquaero can control 1 Rev. 2 and another one of your choice (Rev 2 or 3)
Cheers
