Hi guys,

Ok I just put togheter my new computer etc. Have the dvd drive as ide primary, and the hdd as sata1primary. When I start up the computer, and don't go into bios. It says

"verifying ini data.....
Boot from CD:
ERROR BLABHAB LBH

(i put in the bootable xp cd)

Boot from CD:

And it just stays like that. It sounds like the system is doing something, but nothing appears. I don't have a floppy drive installed, could that be the problem (don't know why but hey i gotta throw it out there)

Thankx,

CD

I can't get my system to boot from CD no matter what I do, and I never have been able to. Don't know if it's down to my older hardware or what but I usually have to install a floppy temporarily for loading windows and use the 6 boot disks (pain in the arse)

Can you point me to a link that tells me how to make the 6 boot disks?

Enter your bios and make sure it can see the CD drive.
Turn off boot from floppy in your BIOS.
Check boot order in Bios.

If your bios is detecting the CD drive then I dont know whats wrong.

If not double and trebel check the cables. Do you have them connected correctly. Check is the drive set as master or slave or cable select. Set it to master if you can.

Just leave teh disk in teh drive when you boot up and follow the instructions.

Make sure the floppy is set as first boot device...

You can download the utility to create the floppies from Micro$oft website, though it goes without saying you're gonna need another pc to create the disks on. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?productID=&freetext=boot+disk&DisplayLang=en

There's the link for you.

@ Knippex, my DVD drive works absolutely fine, always has done, everything was configured fine in the BIOS but for some reason it just refused to run XP CD for install onto a blank HDD  It's a Gigabyte mobo, what board you running Canada'?
It's not too serious as I have a floppy drive just for that kinda situation but it's irritating since I don't use it for anything else nowadays, so I know that you must be a little pissed right now.

Once at a:\ see can you accesss the dvd drive....

If you can run the executable install file. (assuming here that it works like a windows98 boot disk...)

Fillip....

That would seriously piss me off. I dont even own a floppy drive any more. I had to borrow on to install my sata drivers which I thought was a PITA.

Is it a known problem with gigabite boards ????

I had a box (my daughters new to her/old FV24 shuttle) that bluescreened as soon as it hit the XP setup. A bios flash took care of it.

I've got the most up-to-date bios, afaik, and I've never heard it said it's an issue with Gigabyte mobo's in general so i'm not really sure. The serial ATA thing will prob' annoy me when I upgrade next year sometime, maybe by then they'll have a bios capable of handling SATA without 3rd pty drivers.Other than this issue and me having to RMA the first board I received this Gigabyte has been pretty flawless.

ok this is what i ahve to say after only building two systems make shure all your drives cards and ram are fully connected. and mostly that your ram isnt upside down. (its happened) secondly enter your bios and make shure that your drive is seen as a the type of drive it is. if it says cdrom when its actualy a dvd rom then something is wrong and you will need to read your motherboards user manual to learn how to fix it. and thirdly READ the user manual before installing your motherboard.

on my latest system i had an issue that the windows intall would fail to a black screen if i presed a button to enter the isntall so another optionhow i avoided it wasto remove all partitions from the disk and have the windows install create the partitons. also on my system windows intall disks pre SP1 would crash to BSoD during the install and because its a prescott system SP2 disks would crash after first reboot.

well I got it to finnally boot the cd up, for the windows install...but I didn't have the sp2 cd...so windows was all messed up when I started it. Solution: go out and spend 100 bux on windows.
